Apricot Blossoms
Apricot Blossoms
Spring's blossoming fruit trees are lovely and exciting with promise, but the masses of nearly white flowers can be a challenge to paint. Yupo paper allows almost complete removal of paint as well as fine lines which edge light washes. The undertones in the blossoms were achieved with a blue underpainting. Much of the painting of the flowers was done by removing paint, then floating in a light orange color to give some crisp detail to the soft blossoms. This painting can be viewed and purchased at the Southern Coos Hospital show, "How Does Your Garden Grow?" in Bandon, Oregon.

10" x 12.5", matted and framed to 16" x 20" in a brown wood frame.

Beach Stairs
Beach Stairs
These old cement stairs have fascinated me since we started walking on Bandon's beaches. They are set in a natural indentation in the rock and start to wind up the cliff before they just disappear. The peach colored evening light with blue shadows and the pile of bull kelp left by the high tide seem to add to the mystery story of the stairway.

11" x 15" matted and framed to 16" x 20" in a black wood frame.

Beach Wall
Beach Wall
The evening sunlight sparkles off the ocean, flows around the natural stone wall and alters the colors of the scene.

12" x 12", matted and framed to 20" x 20" in a wood frame.

Blacklock Path
Blacklock Path
The boggy areas in the path to Blacklock Point caught the reflections of the morning light and coastal mist as they filtered through the forest. This painting received an Award of Distinction in the WSO 49th Aqueous Media Exhibition April, 2014.

12 x 18.5" matted and framed to 18" x 24" in a black wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo Paper.  $800.00
Cemetery Cypress
Cemetery Cypress
This was painted plein air at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery which sits above the Coquille River and the Pacific Ocean. The impressive line of Cypress trees has grown into an almost solid wall that bends away from the ocean winds. It was a misty day which softened the colors for a reflective cemetery mood.

14" x 11", matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo.  $400.00
Chestnut Tree
Chestnut Tree
This huge old chestnut tree was so big that it was hard to see with its own massive limbs as well as the other trees and plants growing around it. So, I picked a place along the path under the tree and tried to capture the feeling of being under such an iconic tree. The painting started on a rather gray morning, but then the sun began to shine through the foliage and add sparkle to the painting.

14" x 11, matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a brown wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo.  $500.00
Gnarly Tree
Gnarly Tree
We pass this gnarly tree when we walk along the cliff path at Shore Acres State Park near. Charleston, Oregon. It stands facing the harsh elements from the ocean while its back is protected by the mossy forest. It rests on this sunny day in the blue glow from the sea.

12.5" x 18.5", matted and framed to 18" x 24" in a wood frame.

Lavender and Gold Sea
Lavender and Gold Sea
Bandon sunsets offer an unending variety of colors, shapes and textures. This lavender and gold sunset filtered through the clouds, ocean spray and rocks to crystallize on the waves and wet sand.

11" x 14", matted and framed to 16" x 20" in a wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo paper.  $400.00
Leela
Leela's Iris
Painted in 2010 at a friend's country home, the dark purple iris were a lovely contrast to the tall pale grass. This painting can be viewed and purchased at the Southern Coos Hospital show, "How Does Your Garden Grow?" in Bandon, Oregon.

12" x 17.5" matted and framed to 18" x 24" in a brown wood frame.

Lighthouse Trees
Lighthouse Trees
This is a plein air piece done near the Coquille River lighthouse at Bullard's Beach. Trees on top of a hill seem to have more character than those flat land or hillside trees. These show years of dealing with ocean storms while clinging to their sandy hill.

14" x 11," matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo paper  $400.00
Lighthouse Trees 2
Lighthouse Trees 2
This is the second plein air piece done of trees near the Coquille River lighthouse at Bullard's Beach. These old wind blown trees sit on top of a sandy hill near remnants of the old lighthouse keeper's house. The first painting was done mid day. This was done late afternoon catching more golden light and deeper shadows.

14" x 11," matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.

Old Hospital Steps
Old Hospital Steps
This elegant old Southwestern style building is located near Mingus Park in Coos bay, Oregon. A sun speckled stairway, azaleas in full bloom and a covered entryway draw me in to imagining this old building's stories. It was once a hospital and now sits empty waiting for its next chapter.

11" x 14", matted and framed to 16" x 20" in a wood frame.

Path to Golden Falls
Path to Golden Falls
This painting belongs in the Golden and Silver Falls State Park series with Neskia Gold, Zentangle Tree and Silver Falls. The path to the falls was a visual delight going from lush shaded forest to light seeming to come from above and below as the path approached the edges cliffs. The light in Oregon's dense coastal forests is amazing and a delight to capture in watercolor on Yupo paper.

10" x 13", matted and framed to 16" x 20" in a wood frame.

Sea Stars
Sea Stars
This group of purple, orange and red sea stars posed in their close knit group on a typical pitted rock on Bandon, Oregon's beach. The holes contain mussels, anemones and other sea life. At low tide the waves splash by and keep the entire scene nice and wet. The Yupo paper allowed me to let the bright wet colors swirl around to capture the starfish and their habitat.

16" x 11", matted and framed to 24" x 18" in a wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo.  $500.00
South Jetty Splash
South Jetty Splash
The South Jetty in Bandon, Oregon is a great place to watch the waves roll in and splash against the rocks. This watercolor is a composite of photos and memories from time spent mesmerized by the ocean's action. This painting can be viewed and purchased at the Second Street Gallery, Bandon, Oregon.

14" x 11", matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.

Splash Two
Splash Two
This watercolor is a study of a wave crashing into a rock and shooting into the air at Bandon Beach. There is a companion painting, "Splash 1," of the same place, same rock, different splash. This painting is a rework of "Splash 2" which was completed in 2014. I was bothered by the shape of the original wave splash and think the new shape and darker rocks help the painting's compositional flow. This painting can be viewed and purchased at the Second Street Gallery, Bandon, Oregon.

13.5" x 10", matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.

Sweet Creek
Sweet Creek
The Sweet Creek Falls Trail near Mapleton, Oregon, provides easy walking to the creek's many waterfalls. Here the summer's depleted stream flows over the rock ledges. The sun filters down into the narrow canyon to illuminate the water and stone.

23" x 18", matted and framed to 30" x 24" in a black wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo.  $800.00
Whites Blue Iris
Whites Blue Iris
Painted at White's garden in Woodbine, Iowa. The painting was reworked in 2017 to make the iris more blue with sharper edges and the foliage softer. This painting can be viewed and purchased at the Southern Coos Hospital show, "How Does Your Garden Grow?" in Bandon, Oregon.

12" x 18", matted and framed to 18" x 24" in a brown wood frame.

Yellow Tree Waterfall
Yellow Tree Waterfall
The Sweet Creek Falls Trail near Mapleton, Oregon, provides easy walking to the creek's 11 waterfalls. Here, a stairway climbs in the shadow of a shear rock wall as the sun sparkles on the yellow leafed tree and the waterfall below.

23" x 18, matted and framed to 30" x 24" in a black wood frame.

 Watercolor on Yupo.  $800.00
Zentangle Tree
Zentangle Tree
This tree clings to the side of the steep path up to Golden Falls in the Golden and Silver Falls State Park. The autumn light streams through the yellow leaves and highlights the unusual intricate pattern of the tree's branches. It reminds me of an ancient labyrinth or the new Zentangle drawings, inviting meditation through following the repetitive patterns in the branches.

14" x 11", matted and framed to 20" x 16" in a wood frame.
